'Cinecittà back in profit, unique hub to attract productions'
Managing director Manuela Cacciamani: 'The 2025 financial year closes with a pre-tax result of EUR 1.5 million'. Coming soon Hannibal with Denzel Washington and the Netflix series Assassin's Creed
Brand new is that Netflix has chosen Cinecittà to film the series based on the Assassin's Creed video game, a best seller with 230 million copies sold worldwide. Denzel Washington will soon return with an epic production about Hannibal, directed by Antoine Fuqua. "The goal is to continue to bring international and national productions to our theatres, proving that there is no better place in the world to do so." Manuela Cacciamani took over the reins of Cinecittà as managing director in July 2024. A metre by metre plan of the studios, placed on the floor in her office, tells the story of historic Cinecittà alongside the one undergoing transformation. As if from being a place of stories in fiction, one after the other, the home of great Italia cinema has itself entered a process of creative evolution. The Pnrr, too, has played its part in this. "Since my arrival, more than 110 million have been invested, in addition to the 89 million previously committed. By June we will be offering 21,000 more square metres for productions, 25 studios, ten hectares of outdoor areas available'.
Let's start with the accounts, are the 2025 revenues in line with the targets?
It closes with a profit of EUR 1.5 million before tax. All figures are extraordinary, we are back to posting profits, which has not happened since 2019 as the 2022 and 2023 budgets were adjusted. The forecasts were met and exceeded, both in terms of comparison to the 2024 financial year and in relation to the budget. The sales turnover increased by EUR 8.9 million compared to 2024. Ebitda was positive at EUR 14 million compared to + EUR 7 million in 2024. The business plan assumed revenues from the commercial area of 25 million and instead we arrived at over 30.4 million.
What in particular worked?
I must emphasise the cost front, which in total is down by ten million. Of these, over five are pure savings on the purchase of services from third parties, internalising processes, and rationalising labour costs through staff efficiency.
