Claudio Lombardi, a man of motors and politics, has died. Cesare Florio: 'A person who was needed'
Claudio Lombardi was engine technical director at Lancia from 1975 to 1990. From 1991 to 1994 he was engaged in Formula 1 at Ferrari, and from 2000 to 2010 he worked for Aprilia as a freelancer.
Claudio Lombardi, a motoring man and politician from Alessandria, has died at the age of 83. An engineer, his professional curriculum saw him work at Aprilia, Scuderia Ferrari - where Cesare Fiorio wanted him when he moved to sports management -, Lancia, Fiat.
On the political front, a centre-left exponent, he served in the Province and the Municipality, where he was also councillor for the Environment.
"A companion in so many battles and a lucid and tireless voice in the defence of our territory, Claudio," the Stop Solvay Committee recalls, "was an active member, sharing a fundamental piece of our history, putting his extraordinary expertise at the service of the community. He was an inexhaustible source of data, analyses and technical clarifications on the pollution produced by the chemical plant, but above all a constant presence, right up to the last, at our side. To him goes our deepest gratitude. We will continue to fight and we will also do so in his name'.
