The meeting lasted almost three hours, demonstrating the desire to rekindle dialogue and the many important topics on the agenda. This afternoon Confindustria and the unions met at the table: for Confindustria the president, Emanuele Orsini, with the vice president for Labour and Industrial Relations, Maurizio Marchesini, and the general director, Maurizio Tarquini. For CGIL, CISL and UIL the three general secretaries, Maurizio Landini, Daniela Fumarola and Pierpaolo Bombardieri.

This is the first time in years that the three leaders of CGIL, CISL and UIL have responded jointly to Confindustria's request for a meeting. After all, Orsini had emphasised it several times in recent weeks and also at the 27 May assembly: the method of dialogue is essential to achieve shared and effective results, a united dialogue, with all three unions.

Orsini: positive day, safety and industrial policy priorities

"It was a positive day, we discussed many topics of interest to companies and workers, obviously chapter number one health and safety, which is everyone's interest, for us it is at the centre: we need to prevent accidents at work, for us it is fundamental," said Orsini, leaving the Confindustria guest quarters in Via Veneto, Rome. 'Another topic is the industrial policies of our country. But that's not all: we also talked about Europe, tariffs, and many other topics relating to the country's growth, and industrial relations, which are at the centre,' he continued, emphasising the importance of the meeting: 'It was good to be together, especially as it had been a long time since we had all met together. Positive to be together, for the growth and future of the country'.

Now we will move forward: 'On the topics that we have identified in common today - industrial policy, health, safety, industrial relations - we will build a path of meetings to analyse the issues that are shared by all of us,' added the president of Confindustria, who, responding to a specific question on the metalworkers' contract, said he was 'confident' that the table could be reactivated in the coming days.

Landini: Answers are needed on the issue of contract renewal and the salary question

For the leader of the CGIL, Maurizio Landini, there has been "certainly a reactivation of a confrontation that we will now have to make explicit on the various topics that we have discussed, we will have to deal with the issues that were dealt with in the interconfederal agreements, which are in force, starting with the Pact of the factory, certainly the issue of health and safety has a central element and brings with it the issue of contracts, industrial relations and representation. At the same time there is the issue of the renewal of contracts and the wage issue. contractual tables that must restart and we are cautiously optimistic that they will restart in the coming days, starting with the table with Federmeccanica'.

Fumarola: there is optimism about the resumption of the round table with Federmeccanica

CISL general secretary Daniela Fumarola deemed the meeting 'important' because 'we have resumed a very useful path for the country, for the people we represent. We have the need to join forces on issues that unite us and we have set ourselves the goal of continuing this dialogue, so in the coming weeks we will address an agenda of issues" because "the country needs answers, the workers, the companies need to find a common front and that is our hope, to be together on issues that unite us and on those that do not unite us to reason in order to find moments of common synthesis. The CISL number one also said she 'welcomes the optimism expressed by Confindustria on the possible reopening of the table for the renewal of the metalworkers' contract. It is a positive sign that must translate into a concrete resumption of dialogue, with the signing of the telecommunications and multiservices national collective labour agreements as well".

Bombardieri: social partners must make a proactive contribution to the country

For the number one of Uil, Pierpaolo Bombardieri, if 'the meeting between Confindustria and trade unions had taken place earlier it would have been better, but it was absolutely positive. I think that the social partners must make a proactive contribution to this country. We talked and discussed all the topics that concern workers, companies and the future of this country', 'safety at work is the priority for everyone. Too many people are still dying, we are making an effort to understand what more can be done, each for his part, of course. We also talked about industrial policies. it is clear that this is a country that is experiencing a very complicated contingent moment, some dynamics are determined by global policies even outside Europe. We have started to think about these issues and we will continue to do so in the coming weeks, with a positive hope on the opening of contractual tables'. The reference is to the negotiation for the renewal of the metalworkers' contract suspended from 12 November 2024..
