Controversy over Fico's boat, Crosetto: '550 euro per year mooring'
The Defence Minister spoke during a parliamentary question tabled by Senator Rastrelli (FdI)
Key points
Roberto Fico, former president of the Chamber of Deputies and now candidate for the Campania Region, pays an 'annual fee, regularly paid, averaging approximately 550 euro' for mooring his boat in the port of Nisida.
This was said by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto in response to a parliamentary question tabled by Fratelli d'Italia senator Sergio Rastrelli. A procedure initiated after the controversy of recent weeks over the Fico's boat moored in the military port of Nisida. On that very boat, the former deputy recorded a video response, also relaunching his themes for the elections scheduled for 23 and 24 November.
This is why Crosetto has 'given instructions to investigate the existence of similar cases in other similar areas in Italy, of all the armed forces, and to receive detailed information regarding the costs in similar areas and the association's budget'.
The berth since Fico was Speaker
"It has been ascertained," he added, "that the mooring of the Honourable Roberto Fico's boat took place after his appointment as President of the Chamber of Deputies, by reason of a request for part of 2018, in order to have a berth in an area that is militarily guarded and controlled, for personal security needs. This concession was renewed annually, without interruption, even after the end of the term of office'.
Who decided on the berth
Crosetto went on to list the criteria for membership of the amateur sports association and the possible allocation of places in the stretch of water relating to the Nisida detachment, including anyone who may be authorised to attend the facilities, making a 'request for membership to support the aims of the association and is authorised to enrol by resolution of the board of directors' or 'any personnel indicated by the Air Force Academy Command from the Naples Port Authority'. With regard to the admission of members, 'it is provided that the Air Force Academy Command has the right to submit personnel for admission as supporting members'.
