Exports rising to 16% (but it was 20% pre-Cvid) and the constant increase in pre-sliced products, which are worth 33% of sales (trend in common with many other cured meats) have brought the turnover to 74 million euro, two more than in 2023. These are the results communicated by the Consortium of the Coppa di Parma Igp, which includes 21 member companies for a sector employing over 500 people, including direct employees and workers linked to the induced activities.
In the last year volumes remained constant compared to 2023, with 3.9 million kilograms of processed meat, of which 1.9 was destined for the certified product for a production turnover of EUR 31 million.
"If the increase in the cost of the raw material (i.e. the muscular portion of the pig's neck) continues to be a difficult trend to counter, with a +21% recorded over the last three years, the good news for the Coppa di Parma Igp Consortium comes above all from pre-sliced products. There were 415,000 kilograms of certified product destined for trays, which with 25 million euro in value account for one third of the overall turnover. A constant growth from 25% in 2021 to the current 33%,' reads a note.
The main beneficiary was the large-scale retail sector, which with a share of 70% represents the main marketing channel, to which all pre-sliced products are destined.
The main export destinations are EU countries such as Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. But Canada remains the single largest importer.
