For the 15th time in its history, the Giro d'Italia will start from abroad. The Durres-Tirana on 9 May will be the first of three Albanian stages to kick off the 108th edition of the pink race. The start was presented at the official residence of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.
On 12 May, the caravan will rest in Apulia before setting off again the following day along a route that will be unveiled in its entirety, together with that of its female counterpart, on 13 January in Rome.
"We have beaten many other countries," said Prime Minister Rama, "that are better and richer than us. We will have the opportunity to show our beautiful territory to 800 million viewers on 200 TVs around the world. I have always said that Albania is a small Italy, now with the Great Departure we will truly be an Italy on the other side of the sea. For us it will be the first time, but I hope not the last'.
The three stages in Albania of the Tour of Italy 2025
.A mid-mountain stage, from Durres to Tirana, with a total of 1,800 metres of altitude difference spread over 164 km.
Next, it will be the streets of the Albanian capital again to host a 13.7km individual time trial.
Finally, on the third day we will move south for a new mid-mountain stage with start and finish in Vlora, 160 km with over 2700 metres of elevation gain.
