South Carolina primaries: Trump supporter Darline Graham wins
Darline Graham is the sister of the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham
Voters in South Carolina have chosen Darline Graham as the Republican candidate for the US Senate, to fill the seat previously held by her late brother Lindsey, in the November elections.
In the run-off of the special Republican primary, held on Tuesday, Darline Graham defeated MP Ralph Norman two weeks after both had finished in the top two places in a field of 10 candidates. Despite being a political unknown, Graham beat some of the biggest names on the South Carolina political scene in this special election.
She was appointed by Governor Henry McMaster to serve out the remaining months of her late brother’s current term and quickly secured the backing of President Donald Trump, who encouraged her to stand for a full term and campaigned on her behalf in the state last week.
