Austria will be Italy's quarter-final opponent in the Davis Cup Final 8, scheduled from 18 to 23 November in Bologna's SuperTennis Arena. The competition draw has been made in Piazza Maggiore. The Azzurri captained by Filippo Volandri will make their debut on 19 November at 4 p.m. The other matches feature France-Belgium, Czech Republic-Spain and Germany-Argentina. Surprisingly, in the elimination round, the United States (at the hands of the Czechs) and 28-time title winner Australia (defeated at home by the Belgians) were eliminated. The semifinals will be played on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 November, the final on Sunday 23.
As a result of this draw, Alcaraz's Spain and the reigning champions Azzurri could eventually only meet in the final: in the Italian path would be, first, the winner between France and Belgium.
On the women's side, in the Billie Jean King Cup underway in Shenzhen, Italy will play in the semifinals against Ukraine, who for the first time ever conquered this goal by beating Spain 2-0. The appointment is for Friday at 11 a.m. Italian time. The Italian women had won the quarter-finals against China (the host) with two matches, both won in a comeback after almost three hours of play by Jasmine Paolini against Wang Xinyu (4-6, 7-6, 6-4) and Elisabetta Cocciaretto against Yuan Yue (4-6, 7-5, 7-5).
