She died Matilde Lorenzi, the young Italian skiing hopeful who fell yesterday while training on the Val Senales glacier in South Tyrol. 'No criminal responsibility', the public prosecutor's office of Bolzano closes the case. The young skier from Turin was skiing down the Grawand G1 slope when her skis came apart and she fell, violently hitting her face on the ice. Taken to hospital by helicopter, her condition immediately appeared desperate. "An immense pain," her sister Lucrezia wrote in a post. Italian sport in mourning, the Federation has suspended all training. Commotion from Mattarella, Meloni and politicians. The funeral on Friday 1 November in Giaveno, in the province of Turin.

Safety parameters met

.

The safety parameters on the slope and of the ski lift, it was ascertained, were adhered to as well as the protections along the slope were correctly placed. A possible liability of the ski lift operators was therefore also excluded. There is no suspicion of foul play and no investigation will therefore be opened into the incident. It seems, therefore, that it was an accident: a hypothesis also supported by the statements of eyewitnesses heard by the carabinieri.

Young promise of Italian skiing

.

Matilde Lorenzi had made a name for herself last season by winning the overall and youth Italian title in the super-G in Sarentino, and also last year she finished sixth in the downhill and eighth in the super-G in the junior World Championships in Chatel, France. She boasts an 11th place in the super-G in St. Moritz in December 2023 as her best finish in the European Cup.

"You have talent right away, when you are born, then you can cultivate it, you can improve it. I think I have talent because I was always told that from a very young age. You cultivate it by always believing in it and always trying. Skiing has taught me to compete, to be happy, to give my best. When you see such a steep slope you always think 'mamma mia I really have to do it', but then it turns out to be fun, because skiing is always fun. It comes close to painting, you always leave a trace. When I grow up, I would like to continue my skiing career but also be a model or something related to photography,' she said in an interview with Rai in 2017.

Morte Matilde Lorenzi: ecco tutti gli incidenti mortali sugli sci degli atleti negli anni

The Piedmontese athlete has a sister, Lucrezia, who is also a skier. Matilde Lorenzi was supposed to be working on the Giant Slalom in Sweden, but too much heat had convinced the coaching staff to prefer fast trials and, therefore, Val Senales. The slopes of Val Senales, which extend from the Grawand mountain station at 3,212 metres and the chairlift stations up to the Maso Corto valley station at over 2,000 metres, in fact attract many ski teams for training, which is indispensable in view of the imminent start of the racing season. In addition to Italy A2, the Alpin Arena Senales has recently hosted the national teams of Sweden, Switzerland, Slovenia and Croatia. Training and refresher courses for ski instructors are also held on the glacier.
