On the Isle of Skye, summer is a Gaelic thrill
Discovering spectacular wildlife
One of the most exciting experiences you can have – and one that is also extremely useful for understanding the natural world of Skye – is to take part in the excursions organised by Isle of Skye Wildlife Tours. During these exploratory trips, you’ll have the chance to see seals up close, observe the behaviour of otters, and watch seabirds in flight through binoculars or with the naked eye. Above all, you may spot those magnificent hunters that are the white-tailed sea eagles, as well as short-eared owls and peregrine falcons. The landscape and marine ecosystem of Skye is, after all, a veritable treasure trove of species, including basking sharks, dolphins and harbour porpoises. Using the Swarovski telescopes provided by the crew, you’ll be guided in spotting the animals and then learn about their habits, setting sail from the small harbour of Portree.
