Dyson is equipping its home appliances with cameras, sensors and algorithms. The latest developments at IFA 2026
From Nurovi robots, capable of recognising dirt and different surfaces, to HushJet air purifiers, designed to move more air whilst making less noise. Here are the main new products unveiled in Berlin.
At the ‘Dyson Unveiled’ event in Berlin, Jake Dyson showcased a new generation of appliances capable of monitoring their surroundings, recognising dirt and surfaces, and adapting their behaviour. Artificial intelligence is primarily being incorporated into robots, whilst fluid dynamics continues to be the common thread running through air purifiers and haircare products. Here are the new products, excluding the CameraJet, the toothbrush with a camera. Here’s what we learnt during a preview event held in Milan last month.
Dyson R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV
It is the most sophisticated robot in the new Nurovi range. The interesting thing is the way it detects dirt: it combines UV light, computer vision and a laser-like green light to recognise almost 200 types of substances and household objects. When it finds a stain, it keeps working on it until it considers it removed. The microfibre roller is fed with clean water at 70 °C via 12 hydration points and cleans itself with every rotation.
Dyson R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry
Traditional circular robot mops have a rather obvious problem: room corners, unfortunately for them, are square. Dyson has therefore adopted mops inspired by the Reuleaux triangle – a shape formed by three arcs that maintains a constant width as it rotates. The eccentric motion allows the mop to get closer to edges and corners. The water is heated to 75 °C in the docking station.
Dyson R1 Nurovi Dry
This is the model designed exclusively for vacuuming. The R1 Nurovi Dry uses the same Twin-Capture technology as the R2 model, but focuses entirely on dry cleaning of hard floors and carpets. The stated suction power is 21,000 Pa. The idea is to divide the work: the brushes mechanically collect larger debris, whilst the suction system takes care of the fine particles. The side brush system is also interesting: the brushes are angled, mounted on a flexible connector, and can adjust their pressure and direction to better guide dust towards the airflow.
Dyson W1 PencilWash
The new W1 PencilWash retains the slim and lightweight design of the original floor cleaner, but addresses precisely the most sensitive aspects of a machine that deals with water and dirt. The roller is now more absorbent, the residue management system has been updated and, most importantly, a self-cleaning function has been integrated into the charging station. It’s a less spectacular upgrade than the artificial intelligence found in robots, but probably more practical in everyday use.
