Eicma 2025 kicks off, market pushes scooters with sales up 10%
October ended on a positive note, thanks to over 25,000 registrations. Scooters did well at +9.8%, while motorbikes were down 9.59%
Key points
At the opening of the 82nd edition of Eicma, scheduled to take place at Fiera Milano Rho until Sunday 9 November, the data released by Ancma (National Association for the Bicycle, Motorcycle and Accessory Industry) bode well for the future of the sector.
The scooter market closed the month's registrations in the positive for the fourth time in 2025, thanks to the 1.09% growth achieved in October. The trend in registrations, which came in at 25,355 units, confirms the trend of all of '25 with scooters pulling the market along thanks to an increase of 9.8% and 14,985 units sold, motorbikes at - 9.59%, for a total of 8,942 registered vehicles due to the many zero kilometres still on the network linked to the end of the Euro 5 series, and mopeds, which stopped at 1,428 vehicles with - 7.57%. Numbers that show a strong polarisation of the market towards scooters, with motorbikes being able to recover as the self-registration rate runs out.
Slowly recovering motorbike and scooter market
How did the motorbike and scooter market fare in the first ten months of the year? In the second half of the year the two-wheeler market partially recovered from the heavy losses of the first part of the year (-10% in April), bringing the partial figure to -2.17% and 318,416 units sold. The figure is even more interesting if placed in the European context, where according to the third quarter data released by the European Manufacturers' Association Acem, a loss of 7.2% was recorded. Even in the year-on-year trend, the important difference between scooters and motorbikes remains, with the former growing by 8.82% for a total of 182,325 units sold, and the latter dropping by 12.66% and totalling 123,918 vehicles. Even less encouraging data for mopeds, which saw a quarter of their market disappear (-24.14%), recording only 12,173 units.
Registration of electric mopeds and scooters
The niche of electric vehicles closed in the sign of stability, with an overall +0.59 % and 857 units registered in October 2025. Here too, big differences can be seen, with mopeds at + 22 % and 393 vehicles sold and scooters at - 15.89 % and 413 units.
Continued decline in quadricycles
End of incentives, end of growth. This could be summed up as the state of health of quadricycles in Italy, which for the fourth consecutive month closes deeply in the negative after the end of State incentives that ended last April. Specifically, October recorded -34.52%, rising to -41.78% for electric quadricycles. A minus sign also for the cumulative 2025, with a drop of 11.73% and 14,648 registered units.
