Election expenses: former Venice mayor Brugnaro to stand trial
The investigation centres on an alleged “exceeding” of the election spending limit by around €300,000. The trial is scheduled for 21 September
The former mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro has been committed for trial for the alleged violation of the law on election expenses, in relation to the 2020 local election campaign. The trial has been set for 21 September.
Along with Brugnaro, Brugnaro’s chief of staff, Morris Ceron, Walter Bianchi of the Consorzio Produzione e Sviluppo Nordest, and Adriano Giugie, the campaign finance manager, have also been charged with various offences relating to forgery and illegal campaign financing. At the heart of the investigation is an alleged ‘exceeding’ of the election spending limit by around €300,000.
