Venice, who is Simone Venturini who gave victory to the centre-right: for 11 years Brugnaro's councillor

In the end the centro-right saw fit to support the candidate who could take over Luigi Brugnaro's legacy at the Venice City Council. In Laguna, Venturini's election came as no surprise, since in the general consideration he is to all intents and purposes the 'dauphin' of the former mayor.

Venturini, so far well ahead, if elected will become the youngest first citizen in the history of the city of Venice. Born in the working-class hamlet of Marghera, a law graduate and active in the associative, parish and cultural spheres, Venturini was first elected city councillor in 2010 with the Udc, of which he was council group leader. In the 2015 municipal elections he was elected for the centre-right, and was delegated to Social Cohesion, Labour, Infrastructure and Economic Development, which he confirmed in his second term.

"I believe that our list was a strong list and that our political proposal was extremely pragmatic. I also believe that in recent years the mayor's list has had a high visibility and success at the municipal elections'. This is how Venice mayoral candidate Simone Venturini put it, emphasising that it was 'a phenomenon that could have been expected, probably not with such large percentages, but it is a sign of an election campaign always done with a smile and with a great ability to talk about the issues and provide solutions'. Venturini went on to emphasise that he felt the weight 'of responsibility' and 'all those requests that have been put to me, all the dreams, all the fragilities and hopes that have been handed to me in these weeks of electoral campaigning and in the previous months, and to which I want to give an answer'. Venturini recalled that at the press conference he had 'spoken of a list aiming for 30% and a coalition aiming to win in the first round. We have not gone that far
