Employment: the good and the bad for young people – fewer unemployed, but greater job insecurity

Against an international backdrop marked by a worrying rise in youth unemployment, our country is, for once, standing out in a positive light: we are, in fact, seeing progress in terms of unemployment among the under-25s, but labour force participation and employment rates remain very low. Drawing on the latest figures from the ILO, the International Labour Organisation, in the “Report on Global Youth Employment Trends”, published to mark International Youth Day on 12 August, we shall attempt to take stock of the situation for young Italians, examining employment, unemployment, inactivity and continued participation in the education and training system.
