Aeroplanes, Italy holds the record for inconveniences and lost luggage

In 2025 there were 11.1 million flights in Europe, an average of 30,474 flights per day, an increase of +4.1% compared to 2024. Of these, however, almost 1 in 4 (23.9% of the total) arrived at their destination late. The data come fromRefundAlVolo, a company specialising in air transport, which reviewed the official Eurocontrol numbers and also produced a focus on the Italian situation.
Delayed arrivals decrease on the European network
The punctuality of arrivals on the European network stood at 76.1% in 2025, +3.5% better than in 2024, but still -2% lower than in 2019. On average, the departure delay for all causes (bad weather, airline problems, airport problems, etc.) was 14.6 minutes per flight, -16% compared to 2024 but +12% compared to 2019 (+1.5 min/flight) - explains ReimburseAlFlight.
Roma Fiumicino ranks 23rd for flight punctuality at departures
In terms of flight punctuality at departures, Stockholm airport ranks first in Europe with 85% of flights taking off on time, followed by Oslo (84%) and Copenhagen (82%). Rome Fiumicino ranks 23rd among European airports with a punctuality rate of 65%, an improvement of +10% over 2024.
The virtuous and the laggards
Four operators recorded an arrival punctuality of over 85%: SAS Group (87%), Widerøe (86%), Iberia Group (85%) and Iberia Regional (85%). At the bottom of the ranking were TAP (61%), Royal Air Maroc (71%), TUI Group (71%) and Jet2.com (71%).
In Italy over 3,900 flights per day
The United Kingdom recorded the highest number of daily flights in 2025, averaging 5,609 flights per day, followed by Spain (5,211 flights/day) and Germany (4,888 flights/day). Italy ranks 5th among European states with an average of 3,963 flights/day, +5% on 2024, +10% on 2019.
