Explosion at Augusta Central Station: two people injured

An explosion occurred shortly before dawn at Augsburg Central Station in Germany. According to Bild, an as yet unidentified object exploded in the internal passageway of a building; two people sustained minor injuries from the sound blast, and window panes were damaged. The cause of the explosion remains unknown. Bomb disposal experts from the Bavarian Criminal Investigation Department are at the scene, and the roads around the station have been closed.
The injured are a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy, both Ukrainian nationals, according to reports from the German news agency DPA. A second suspicious object, which did not explode, was found inside the main railway station. “It is still too early to comment on a possible motive for the explosion that took place during the night, but we are investigating,” said Küfner. Road traffic and public transport in the vicinity of the station were disrupted in the early hours of the morning, but traffic subsequently returned to normal, according to police reports. Augsburg is a city in Bavaria with a population of 308,000, situated approximately 78 kilometres north-west of Munich.
