Liverpool player Diogo Jota, 28, died in a car accident in Zamora, Spain. According to witnesses who called 112, the car - a Lamborghini - was engulfed in flames, which also spread to the surrounding vegetation. Diogo Jota had just married his fiancée, Rute Cardoso, just 11 days ago. The wedding took place on 22 June. Photos showed the couple with their three children: Denis (2021), Duarte (2023) and a daughter born in 2024, whose name was not revealed.
The Career
A Liverpool footballer, born in 1996, he began his professional career at Paços de Ferreira. He was formerly at Aletico Madrid (in the 2016-17 season although he never made his debut with the Colchoneros) and at Porto, on loan for one year.
Jota, 28, at Liverpool had arrived in 2020 from Wolverhampton - where he had contributed to promotion to the Premier League with 17 goals in the 2017-18 season - for €44.7m. Since then he has played 182 games with the Reds, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists. During this time he has won three titles with the Reds: a Premier league (2024-25), an Fa Cup (2021-22) and a League Cup (2021-22).
