Villa Certosa, the historic Sardinian residence in Porto Rotondo of the founder of Mediaset and Forza Italia Silvio Berlusconi, could soon change hands. According to the newspaper La Nuova Sardegna, for the villa, overlooking the gulf, in Punta Lada, with an extension of 4,500 square metres, 126 rooms and a park of 120 hectares, there would be a suitor on which for now there would be the utmost reserve. Precisely for this reason, there are still no confirmations or dates on the closing. Although, with regard to the potential buyer, there is talk of a 'wealthy Arab'.
Bought in the 1980s
.The entire estate, which had become the focus of controversy and political contestation in past years, had been purchased by Berlusconi in the 1980s. At the time, the mansion was called Villa Monastero but, with the advent of the new owner, it was renamed Villa Certosa after a series of changes and interventions. In the 2000s, secrecy restrictions were lifted and it was forbidden to come within 500 metres of the coast. The house was defined by government decree as an 'alternative location of maximum security for the safety of the Prime Minister'.
Between salt and ponds
.The Villa Certosa estate, consisting of lounges, suites, annexes, bungalows, wellness areas and even a private theatre, also houses a panoramic tower, a greenhouse, a fully equipped gymnasium, several artificial lakes and a thalassotherapy facility.
Selling for almost 500 million
.After Silvio Berlusconi's death, the mansion remained in the hands of his heirs, although rumours and rumours of a possible sale were never absent. The value of the entire estate, located a short distance from the Costa Smeralda, was estimated at around 260 million euro. According to La Nuova Sardegna, the current offer would be close to EUR 500 million.
Finvest's position
."We are collecting various expressions of interest, but at the moment there are no negotiations at an advanced stage," says a Fininvest spokesman regarding speculation of a definite buyer for Villa Certosa in Sardinia. "We never comment on indiscretions about individual interlocutors," added the spokesman for the Berlusconi heirs' holding company after the newspaper 'La Nuova Sardegna' speculated that negotiations for the sale of Silvio Berlusconi's historic summer residence would be in the final stages.
