The first bell rings on 7 September. Bolzano kicks things off, and Puglia brings the school year to a close.

With the mid-August bank holiday behind us, it is already time to start thinking about the new school year. In a few weeks’ time, all pupils across Italia will be back at their school desks. The first to return to school will be pupils in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, on 7 September. Next, on Thursday 10 September, the bell will ring in Veneto, the Autonomous Province of Trento and Valle d’Aosta. Then, on Monday 14 September, it will be the turn of pupils in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmont and Umbria.

The following day, pupils will also be back in class in Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Sicily and Tuscany. Next, on Wednesday 16 September 2026, pupils in Abruzzo, Basilicata and Sardinia will follow. Meanwhile, pupils in Puglia will be the last to return to school, on Thursday 17 September 2026.

As for the end of the school year, the first to go on holiday will be the pupils in Emilia-Romagna and the Marche, on 5 June 2027. Next, on 8 June, it will be the turn of pupils in Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Puglia, Sardinia, Umbria and the Autonomous Province of Trento. Then, on 9 June, the final bell of the school year will ring for Abruzzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Molise and Valle d’Aosta. Next, on 10 June, it will be the turn of Piedmont, Sicily and Tuscany. The penultimate group to go on holiday will be pupils in Veneto, on 12 June, and finally, on 16 June, those in the autonomous province of Bolzano. In almost all regions, nursery schools will close on 30 June 2027, with the exception of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, where the school year will end on 26 June, and the Autonomous Province of Trento, where it will end on 30 July.
