Entrance test, decree for architecture: multiple sessions possible
The real novelty concerns the openness of the Ministry of Universities to arranging several sessions, instead of just one
Key points
The entrance tests for the Faculty of Architecture are getting closer and taking on more defined contours, with an important novelty: for the academic year 2026/27 there may be more than one session, as opposed to the single session in previous years. The change is written in black and white in the decree just published by the Ministry of Universities, signed by the head of the department, Anna Maria Bernini, which sets out the procedures and programmes for next year. It also sets a maximum date for the tests: 30 September 2026.
A single test but managed by the universities: 50 questions and 100 minutes
The basic principles remain unchanged: planned access, selection by means of tests and assessment of transversal and disciplinary competences. The admission test remains structured on a nationally standardised model but with local administration. Each university will be able to organise several sessions, but the test structure will remain unchanged: 50 multiple-choice questions with five options each, only one correct, to be completed in 100 minutes.
The distribution of questions is strictly defined: 10 questions on text comprehension, 10 on logical reasoning, 10 on history (including art history), 10 on drawing and representation and 10 on mathematics and physics. The maximum score obtainable is 50 points: +1 for each correct answer, 0 for omissions and -0.25 penalty for errors.
Required skills and programme set-up
The decree reiterates that the tests are constructed on the basis of the programmes annexed to the ministerial decree and consistent with the skills acquired in upper secondary school. In particular, comprehension of different types of texts, logical-mathematical skills, general culture with a focus on historical-social and institutional areas, as well as characterising disciplines such as drawing, mathematics and physics are assessed.
For the scientific area, the elements of algebra, Euclidean and analytical geometry, probability and trigonometry remain central, along with the fundamental principles of physics: mechanics, thermodynamics, electrostatics and electrodynamics. On the graphics front, the test continues to verify the ability to read and interpret representations such as plans, elevations and axonometries.
