From the former Ilva to Piaggio Aero and La Perla: here are the 32 crisis tables active at the Ministry of Enterprise

With the signing of the framework agreement for the former Blutec, there are now 32 active crisis tables at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, opened and managed by the Enterprise Crisis Structure, to which must be added 23 tables currently being monitored, which also include companies that are not in crisis but are part of sectors in crisis, and in this case three have been resolved in recent weeks: Whirlpool, Warstila and the Marelli plant in Crevalcore. A total therefore of 52 complex company situations.

From fashion to automotive, from telecommunications to household appliances, before the August break Minister Adolfo Urso met trade unions, trade associations, and companies: the focus of discussions at Palazzo Piacentini were, among others, La Perla, Abramo Customer Care, and Fondazione Santa Lucia.

With the summer meetings also came important agreements. For the former Blutec, with the signing of the framework agreement on 12 August that saves 540 workers, minister Adolfo Urso spoke of a 'historic turning point for Sicily'. On 8 August Marelli signed at Mimit the final agreement for the sale of the Crevalcore plant branch of business to Tecnomeccanica, concluding the reindustrialisation process aimed at identifying the best solution for the future of the plant and its employees. With the positive outcome of the transaction, Tecnomeccanica will immediately reabsorb 152 workers from the Crevalcore plant, while for the remaining 67, the agreement signed on 28 March last with the RSAs of the Crevalcore site, Fim-Cisl, Fiom-Cgil, and Uilm-Uil for the plan to contain the occupational and social repercussions of the transition phase to the new industrial and corporate configuration will be implemented.

On 29 July, the Programme Agreement was signed, giving the go-ahead for the transfer of activities at the Bagnoli della Rosandra site to Msc, a leading Italian-Swiss company in the logistics sector and the world's leading maritime transport company. The revitalisation and reindustrialisation of the site envisages the start-up of production of high-tech railway wagons for freight transport, absorbing all 261 workers made redundant by Wärtsilä. From a production point of view, the goal is to produce 1,000 cars per year within a maximum of 36 months and employ over 300 people. The Finnish multinational, for its part, will in any case undertake to guarantee employment levels at the Italian sites where 700 workers are employed.

According to the latest CGIL data published in a January 2024 report, there are 58,026 workers affected by industrial crises for whom there are currently open round tables at Mimit. Then, there are the workers at risk of crisis due to ongoing transformations, another 120,026 according to the Corso d'Italia analysis: 70,000 in the automotive sector, 25,459 in the steel industry, 8,000 in the energy production sector (coal-fired power plants and combined cycles), 2,000 in the electricity sector (protected market), 4,094 in basic chemicals, 3,473 in petrochemicals and refining, 8,500 in the telecommunications sector. Numbers to which must be added the tens of thousands of workers of companies in crisis that have open tables at the regional level, for which there is no national mapping, and 5,141 workers of companies that, despite having made a request, do not have a table at the ministry.
