The Price Observatory of the Ministry of Business and Industry: diesel fuel rose from 2.190 euro per litre to 2.048 and petrol from 1.967 to 1.812. While LPG and methane, both in served mode, rose from 0.837 and 1.545 to 0.804 and 1.548 respectively
Key points
Fuel prices are falling, although not as much as expected under the new rules. After the go-ahead by the government and the publication in the Official Journal of the decree law on excise duties, which provides for a reduction, for a period of twenty days starting from 19 March, of the taxation on diesel, petrol and LPG (25 cents per litre for diesel and petrol and 12 cents per kilo for LPG), and after Mister Prezzi, the Guarantor at the Ministry of Enterprise, sent the Guardia di Finanza a list of those who, from initial checks, haven't reduced prices, the report drawn up by the Mimit Observatory, updated to Friday 20 March, highlights for motorways a decrease in values, with the sole exception of methane, which recorded a slight increase. More specifically, petrol fell by 15.5 cents and diesel by 14.2 cents.
With regard to the national average price of the highway network, self-service mode, in fact, diesel went from 2.190 euro per litre to 2.048 and petrol from 1.967 to 1.812. While LPG and methane, both in served mode, went from 0.837 and 1.545 to 0.804 and 1.548 respectively.
The effects of the excise tax cut on fuel prices are therefore beginning to be seen. According to Staffetta quotidiana processing on the basis of this morning's national average prices from Mimit, the drop compared to yesterday is around 14-15 cents per litre: in particular, self-service diesel is today at 1.978 euro per litre against 2.123 euro per litre yesterday (-14.5 cents). Petrol is at 1.734 euro per litre against 1.885 euro per litre yesterday (-15.1 cents).
For petrol in Campania -10.3 cents against the expected -24.4 cents
With regard to the regional averages of fuels, in self-service mode, calculated by Mimit, the National Consumers' Union emphasises, however, that "at constant industrial prices, prices at the pump should have fallen, including 22% VAT, by 24.4 cents per litre, 12 euros and 20 cents for a 50-litre fill-up. But did it happen? No!'.
In particular, notes the consumers' association, for gasoline the worst region in terms of variation between yesterday's price, 19 March, and today's is Campania, where the price drops by only 10.3 cents per litre against the theoretical 24.4 predicted, less than half, or 5.15 euro for a 50-litre fill-up. Silver medal for Bolzano where the drop rises, so to speak, to 12.8 cents. On the lowest step of the podium was Molise, ex aequo with Lazio with -13.1 cents per litre.
