Milan's Salone del Mobile closed with exceptional numbers, taking the design fair to pre-pandemic numbers, with over 361,000 visitors, close to the record of 400,000 in 2018. And, as always, the fair acted as a booster for the city of Milan and its Fuorisalone, which also achieved excellent results: 1,125 events registered on the Fuorisalone.it platform (30% more than last year), with 838 brands connected, an online audience of 630 thousand users, up 23% compared to 2023, from 162 different countries.

And while the induced revenue generated by the Salone and Fuorisalone during the week of 15-21 April came close to 261 million euros (+13.7% compared to last year), according to Confcommercio estimates, the Fuorisalone induced revenue was 20% more than the 2023 edition.

District numbers

.

Among the districts, the good results of one of the most recent ones, Porta venezia Design District, a project born last year, which this year saw 45 installations in the main streets of the district and more than 200 designers from all over the world. Estimates speak of over 60,000 visitors, 50% more than in 2023. Furthermore, three of the district's projects were selected for the 'Fuorisalone Awards': Kohler with Instalación Arquitectónica de la Terminal 02 por Kohler x SR_A, Lasvit with Re/Creation with Special Mention Communication and Google with Making Sense of Colour with Special Mention Technology.

In the Tortona area, the 'Walk of Design' attracted over 15 thousand visitors per day and the attention of over 100 national and international publications. "We are very proud that Tortona Design Week proves once again to be a unique showcase where history meets innovation, creating a creative dialogue that is renewed every year," commented Mara Traviganti and Daniela Triulzi, organisers of the event. We would like to thank all the brands that have chosen our circuit to present their proposals and the public, curious people and professionals from all over the world, who also for this Milan Design Week 2024 have crowded the Tortona Design District in search of new inspirations'.

Sustainability at the centre

.

The theme of this year's Fuorisalone (Materia Natura), presented a focus on sustainability, improved production processes, new materials, recycling and reuse. This attention was also demonstrated in the installations that animated the city, from iconic locations such as the courtyard of the Palazzo Reale and the Statale di Milano, to lesser-known ones such as the warehouses under the Stazione Centrale, home of Dropcity, or the large garage overlooking the Darsena, or even the Casa dell'Acqua in the Trotter Park transformed into a Bagno Diurno, all the way to Brianza with the Alcova installations in Varedo.

"Appointment models," explained Paolo Casati, co-founder of StudioLabo, the agency that runs Furisalone.it, "are evolving, consolidating their need to become hubs for meetings, comparisons, and the development of quality relationships imagined to last over time - the key to maintaining Milan's two souls between business and avant-garde experimentation, as confirmed by the increasing openness to lifestyle, fashion, and art themes.

Virtual visitors also increased, as mentioned above, with 630,000 unique users and 4 million page views from 162 countries. On Instagram alone, there was coverage of more than 4.6 million users, which more than doubled compared to the 2023 edition.
