Puglia armoured for the G7. During the days of the summit scheduled to take place in Borgo Egnazia, on the Fasano coastline, from 13 to 15 June, extraordinary security measures and strict restrictions will be in force. For days, agents of the State Police's counter-terrorism department have been at work to guarantee security during the G7. In addition to about 40 specialised police officers and Carabinieri, many US military personnel are also at work, monitoring the areas that will host the heads of state and where the arriving delegations will go. Heliports have also been set up for the safe arrival of the guests.
The official dinner with President Mattarella
An official dinner will be held at the Castello Svevo in Brindisi on 13 June, at which the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella will also be present. Five ordinances have been issued by the municipality to delimit transit and parking bans. "We are aware of the inconveniences, but citizens are protagonists of security alongside the institutions. Shared effort for the best result for the province in the eyes of the world," stressed Prefect Luigi Carnevale and Quaestor Giampietro Lionetti, inviting the population - in particular from the municipalities of Brindisi and Fasano - to collaborate for the success of the event. The security area around the Swabian Castle
.On 13 June, starting at 7 a.m., a security zone will be set up in the area of the Swabian Castle in Brinsidi, close to the military area housing the site, where a ban on vehicles and a ban on parking and stopping will be in force. They will be in force from 7 a.m. on 12 June to 7 a.m. on 14 June 2024. And already from 12 June there could be brief suspensions of vehicle traffic 'for specific needs'. From 7 a.m. on 13 June until 1 a.m. on 14 June, traffic is prohibited on all roads in the safety zone. Vehicles will also be banned from the main and alternative routes for the delegations from 7 a.m. on 13 June until 1 a.m. on 14 June, "or, in any case, until such time as requirements cease". From 7 a.m. on 13 June, vehicles and pedestrians will not be allowed to pass 'at the level crossing in Via Osanna, which will be affected exclusively by rail traffic'. Waste collection will be suspended for the duration of the event. The Municipality of Brindisi has set up free exchange parking areas outside the security area, 'which can be used by residents and other users who need to reach the city centre'. People will be able to travel by free buses provided by the Stp public transport service.
Brindisi airport airspace closed on 13 June
There will be a temporary ban on airspace for commercial flights at Brindisi Airport from 19:00 to 23:00 on 13 June 2024. Airport users will be able to reach the airport thanks to an alternative traffic plan drawn up by the municipality of Brindisi. From 7 a.m. on 11 June, the car parks located in the airport area (P8, P9) and the offices of rental companies operating in the same area will not be in operation. For those who need to reach the airport, a free parking area will be activated at the Acque Chiare site, along the SP41, a short distance from the airport. From there, it will be possible to reach the air terminal by means of free buses and shuttles provided by the public transport company. from the parking area free buses will take citizens to the city.
Off limits the western sine of the port of Brindisi
.The western part of the port of Brindisi will be closed to navigation from 00:01 on 13 June until 1.00 on 14 June (or in any case until the end of the security requirements related to the institutional event to be held at the Castello Svevo). All private boats will not be allowed to navigate in the stretch of water. The stretch of sea between the outer boundary of the seno di Ponente, the seno di Levante and the Pigonati canal, on the other hand, will only be allowed for specific requirements, but all boats accessing it will be previously checked by the Guardia di Finanza and the Harbour Master's Office. Navigation of the Moto Nave Stp will still be allowed, which will only sail between the Ammiraglio Millo quay and the Maritime Station. In the Middle and Outer Harbour, all units in transit will have to proceed with the utmost caution, maintaining continuous listening on channel 16VHF and paying the utmost attention to any signals that may be addressed by the naval units of the Police Forces.
