Over 35 million euros have been committed over a twenty-year period to training programmes for schools in Genoa and to incubation and acceleration activities for young companies in mountainous areas. This is the result of the philanthropic work carried out to date by the Edoardo Garrone Foundation, which is celebrating its first twenty years of activity in Genoa.
Founded by Riccardo Garrone, at the end of 2004, and dedicated to the memory of his father Edoardo, who, in 1938, launched the industrial activity of the Erg group, the Foundation was born as an evolution of the commitment, in the humanitarian field, of the Garrone and Mondini entrepreneurial families. Operational since 2005, it has progressively focused its action on two strategic axes: education and development of the Apennine territories.
Approximately 27 million to the organisation's projects
Of the approximately 35 million invested since 2005, more than 27 million have gone directly into projects developed by the organisation. In particular, over the past 10 years, explained Alessandro Garrone, president of the foundation, 53.3% of the resources have been allocated to the Apennine Project, 38.3% to schools, and 8.4% to other cultural and social initiatives, often with an experimental and exploratory approach.
Taking data from the last budget (2024), about 41.8% of the resources are dedicated to the Genoa area, and 58.2% to inland areas throughout Italy. The main beneficiaries of the activities are young people: from 2020 to date, some 2,400 children and young people from Genoese schools of all levels have been involved in the educational projects.
