Gaza, the war killed 38,000 women: 16,000 were girls
Of those injured, 11 suffered permanent disabilities or long-term injuries

In Gaza the war of Israel has hit women hard. This was documented in a report by UN Women, the UN body dedicated to gender equality and women's empowerment, which documented that between October 2023 and December 2025, 38,000 women were killed in the Striza, including 16,000 girls, with an average of 47 deaths per day.
The condition of 11,000 wounded is serious, with permanent disabilities or long-term injuries. A picture that cannot be said to be complete, due to the war and the destruction of facilities that have often made it difficult to record diagnoses and deaths. But it is not only the casualties that make the condition of women in Gaza worrying.
Poverty and food insecurity also weighed heavily during the period under review: many women reduced their food intake to feed their children and malnutrition increased. But health and access to services was also a major problem: around 500,000 women lacked access to essential health services.
The main problems included limited access to antenatal and postnatal care, gynaecological treatment or treatment for chronic diseases. Most of the health facilities were destroyed or damaged by the bombing and the functioning infrastructure was overloaded.
The social impact of the war is heavy: more and more women (who are more exposed to violence, abuse and exploitation) have found themselves having to head the family due to the death or absence of their partners and having to take care of their children and their maintenance alone.
