Italian expertise at the service of one of the greatest environmental challenges of the coming decades: water scarcity. Present in Italy for 15 years and since 2018 strengthened by the acquisition of 100% of Oltremare, the German Mann+Hummel group is now investing in the production site of Cerreto D'Esi (Ancona), already the main centre of excellence in production and research and development for Mann+Hummel's water filtration innovation.
With a turnover of EUR 4.5 billion and more than 21,000 employees worldwide, the German group is one of the largest world-wide water filtration manufacturers, founded in Ludwigsburg in 1941 and still family-owned today.
40 million investment
The group has announced a site expansion plan, which envisages, by 2030, around EUR 40 million of investment and the hiring of more than 100 new employees, as well as the creation of new synergies with local companies and collaborations with academic institutions and research centres.
The filter solutions developed in the Marches plant look to a wide production sector, which needs to transform salty or contaminated water into fresh, drinkable water. Advanced filtration systems make it possible to filter out mineral salts, heavy metals, bacteria, viruses and other contaminants, allowing only water molecules to pass through. 'These are strategic technologies that will increasingly be able to ensure access to water in areas prone to drought, pollution or water scarcity,' reads the note released by the group.
Italian know-how
"We are proud to be able to make available the skills acquired over the years by our team of technicians and engineers," said Elena Santi, Finance Director LS&E and Managing Director of ann+Hummel Water & Fluid Solutions Italia. "The choice of the Marche region is not random, it is an area with a strong manufacturing tradition, a consolidated industrial network, and high-level human capital. It is here that the group has decided to invest in the future. I would also particularly like to emphasise the importance of the research institutes of our universities in the Marche region, which allow us to perfect our skills and thus make the Italian headquarters increasingly competitive in the global market'.
