24-year-old woman struck and killed on a pedestrian crossing in Porto Cervo: post-mortem on 16 July

Vivian Spohr, the 51-year-old German tourist accused of running over and killing a 28-year-old woman, Gaia Costa from Tempio Pausania, on a pedestrian crossing in Porto Cervo, has already returned to Germany. She is a well-known businesswoman in Germany.
Last Tuesday, the German tourist was driving a BMW X5 SUV with her daughter when she struck the young woman from Tempio Pausania in the centre of Porto Cervo, on the Costa Smeralda. An ambulance from the 118 emergency service arrived at the scene and paramedics spent around 20 minutes attempting to resuscitate the girl, but she did not survive: the head injury she sustained was too severe. Vivian Spohr underwent a breathalyser test, which proved negative. The car has been impounded, and investigations are still ongoing, with footage from CCTV cameras being analysed.
The German newspaper *Bild* has published a statement from Vivian Spohr’s lawyer: “The exact circumstances are now under investigation. The Spohr family has expressed its deepest condolences to the victim’s family.” Vivian Spohr has already returned to Germany. She was at her holiday home near Porto Cervo with her husband Carsten Spohr, the chief executive of Lufthansa.
Post-mortem on 16 July
The coroner, Alberto Chighine, will carry out the post-mortem examination on the body of Gaia Costa, the 24-year-old from Tempio Pausania who was struck and killed last Tuesday whilst crossing the pedestrian crossing on Via Aga Khan, in the centre of Porto Cervo. The task, assigned by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Tempio Pausania, will be carried out on Wednesday 16 July.
Vivian Spohr is being represented by Angelo Merlini, whilst Gaia Costa’s family has appointed Antonello Desini as their legal representative.
