"We are living in difficult and very uncertain times, days in which a sense of resignation and disengagement seems to prevail at all levels, leading to a real detachment from reality, from its problems and from the commitment to try to solve them. In politics, a clear sign of this crisis is abstentionism from voting, a trend that seems unstoppable and that deeply undermines the meaning of the representativeness of elected bodies at any level'. This was said by the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, opening the ceremony to award the Civic Merit of the Municipality of Milan, the 'Ambrogini d'Oro', at the Dal Verme Theatre.
'What we are witnessing,' Sala added, 'is an abstentionism not only of the vote, but of sociality as a whole. How can we start again? It is necessary for everyone to return to an awareness of their role, for no one to refrain from doing their duty. Neither benalitarianism nor systematic blame-shifting are needed, what is needed instead is a full sense of our own role, starting with us politicians. We desperately need to recover a sense of community in which participation once again becomes the driving force of our lives, and we have a great need for examples, men and women who mark the way for those who administer, for the city.

Out of 280 nominations submitted, the 2025 edition of the prize awarded a total of 42 prizes to citizens and organisations that have distinguished themselves for their civic commitment, culture, health and solidarity, contributing to the good of the city.
'A keen observer of Italian and international markets and political scenarios,' reads the motivation for the award to the Editor-in-Chief of Il Sole 24 Ore, 'under his editorship, the newspaper has confirmed itself as an essential point of reference for the public, institutions and economic operators with in-depth reports and investigations on crucial issues. Convinced that knowledge is essential for making responsible and prudent choices, especially in times of crisis and uncertainty, he chairs the scientific committee of the Trento Festival of Economics, proposing debates of wide interest and inviting young people, the real lever of the future, to expose themselves in the debate'.
