Farewell to Jesse Jackson, US civil rights icon

Reverend Jesse Jackson, civil rights activist, Baptist minister and two-time US presidential candidate, died today at the age of 84. This was announced by his family, as reported by Nbc News.

"Our father was a leader who served the community, not only our family, but also the oppressed, voiceless and marginalised around the world," the Jackson family said in a note, "we shared him with the world, and in return, the world became part of our extended family. His unwavering belief in justice, equality and love motivated millions, and we ask you to honour his memory by continuing the fight for the values he lived for'.

The cause of death has not been disclosed. The family pointed out that Jackson died peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.
