There are two significant dates for the fight against the odious phenomenon of aggressive and unfair telemarketing that is daily practised towards millions of exasperated citizens:
1) from 19 August onwards, the first 'network filters' will be activated through which incoming calls from abroad from fake landline numbers will be blocked;
2) on 19 November, filters will be activated for incoming calls from abroad with fake mobile telephone numbers'.
How the new Agcom filters work
The problem has been, until now. that since there was no standard - and therefore no consequent technology - to verify the authenticity of the originating number in real time, theItalian telephone operator was obliged to convey the call, as it could not block it without the certainty of a counterfeit.
Having been given more powers to Agcom (the Communications Guarantee Authority), the new regulation requires operators handling incoming international traffic to carry out checks and verifications before forwarding calls to the end operator.
