Google: fined 403 million in Ireland for a breach relating to geolocation data

The Google group has been fined €403 million by the Irish Data Protection Commission for breaching European regulations (the GDPR) on the use of its users’ geolocation data. This is the fourth-highest fine imposed by the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), the body that oversees Google at European level as the company’s European headquarters are based in Dublin. The investigation was launched in February 2020.

Regarding the recently published article on Google’s €403 million fine in Ireland for breaching geolocation data regulations, a Google spokesperson stated: “This case relates to previous policies which have since been updated. Since 2019, we have significantly improved our procedures and introduced effective tools that simplify the management of location data.”
