Grammy 2026, Bad Bunny wins and shouts: 'Ice out'. Trump: 'I'm suing'

While a president elected with white supremacist votes enacts the biggest anti-immigration crackdown in recent history, for the first time a Spanish-language record wins the Grammy for album of the year: it is Debí Tirar Más Fotos, by Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, the first Latin artist to triumph in this category.

The performer, streaming champion who had cancelled his US concerts last year so as not to expose his fans to the threats of Ice, did not beat around the bush when it came to dedicating the night's most coveted accolade 'to all the people who have had to leave their homeland to pursue their dreams. The historic triumph of Debi Tirar Más Fotos was the culmination of a show filled with music and political statements: 'Before I thank God, I'll say one thing: Ice out,' declared Bad Bunny who next Sunday will be the half-time star at the Super Bowl. "We are not savages, we are not animals, we are not aliens. We are human beings and we are Americans."

Other award-winning artists took to the stage at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, on the show last broadcast live on Cbs, their thoughts on Donald Trump's anti-immigration policies: 'No one is illegal in a stolen land. We must continue to speak out and protest. Our voices count,' said Billie Eilish as she accepted the Song of the Year Award for Wildflower. Billie, her brother Finneas O'Connell, author of the song, and other music stars such as Justin Bieber wore "Ice Out" and "Be Good" pins to honour the victims of the recent clashes between federal agents and civilians, such as Alex Pretti and Renée Good, killed by federal agents in Minneapolis.

"I am the granddaughter of an immigrant. I am the fruit of his courage and I think people like my grandfather should be celebrated," said Olivia Dean as she accepted the award for Best Newcomer. At the Grammys, the 2025 Kendrick Lamar triumphant had come in with a record nine nominations: he won five statuettes, including Best Rap Album and Best Recording for the song Luther made with Sza, bringing him to a total of 27 statuettes collected in his career. Bad Bunny came in at three and Lady Gaga two (including best pop album for Mayhem) on par with Sza, Leon Thomas and Turnstile. For fans of the KPop cartoon Demon Hunters, Golden did not disappoint, winning the Grammy for best song written for an audiovisual work. A Grammy also went to Steven Spielberg as the producer of the documentary dedicated to his seminal composer Music for John Williams: the accolade brought the director into the club of "Egots", i.e. Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winners.

Adding to the mood of the evening was the gag of comedian Trevor Noah who wandered through the audience during his opening monologue, mocking the stars sitting in their seats. "Nicki Minaj isn't here," Noah said referring to the singer who in recent days attended a Maga event along with the president praising him. "He is still in the White House with Donald Trump discussing very important issues." So Noah mimicked Trump: "Actually Nicki, I have the biggest butt, everybody says that, Nicki".
