Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed until next year. This time, however, there is a date: the launch is scheduled for 26 May 2026. The video game industry can breathe a sigh of relief. After the launch of Nintendo Switch 2, the new chapter in the GTA series is the most eagerly awaited event, not least because it will mark a before and after in this market. Indeed, on the shoulders of what is to date the most amazing criminal life simulator weighs a piece of the destiny of the consoles' turnover, which are betting on this title to recover after two years with declining numbers.
The numbers of Gta's success
.To understand the importance of this video game, it is good to know that we are talking about one of the most profitable video games ever. GTA V, which was released on 17 September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, has exceeded 200 million copies sold worldwide, contributing significantly to the total of over 430 million units sold by the Grand Theft Auto series. The game generated over $6 billion in revenue, making it the most profitable entertainment product in history, surpassing films such as 'Avatar' and 'Gone with the Wind'.
There are publishers who are waiting to know when GTA will be released to move the launch of their video games. The first GTA trailer, released a year ago, has surpassed 250 million views, which is more than twice as many as the first GTA V trailer, which has stood at 118 million views. Surprisingly, along with the release date announcement, Rockstar Games released the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, offering a more detailed preview of the game's plot and protagonists. Here's what we know.
What does the second Gta trailer reveal?
Set in the fictional Miami-inspired Vice City, the game will follow Lucia Caminos, an ex-con determined to change her life, and Jason Duval, a former soldier involved in drug trafficking. Their story is reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde, with a romantic and criminal relationship that will lead them to confront a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonidas, a fictional representation of Florida.
The trailer shows a Vice City with crowded beaches, diverse neighbourhoods and an atmosphere that reflects the culture of the southern United States. The city appears to include digital versions of real locations, such as the Clevelander Hotel in Miami Beach, known for its vibrant nightlife. In addition to Lucia and Jason, the game will introduce a number of interesting secondary characters, including Cal Hampton, a conspiracy theorist; Boobie Ike, a former criminal turned entrepreneur; and Dre'Quan Priest, an aspiring music producer. These characters will contribute to a rich and diverse narrative. There's no shortage of Rockstar's gritty take on the criminal life, making it a lightning-fast parody of the United States and the values of its star-studded culture. We get glimpses of influencers in absurd situations, conspiracy theories and the stereotypes we know. 80s music, such as 'Hot Together' by the Pointer Sisters, accompanies the images, suggesting a nostalgic soundtrack but with new elements.
