War in Ukraine: latest news. Kyiv: Russian missiles strike Turkish ship, at least five dead

In Izium, also in the Kharkiv region, a five-storey building was hit: 17 people were injured, including a one-year-old child.

In other parts of the region, in other attacks, there were two deaths and 20 people injured. 

In glide bomb attacks on the city of Sumy, one person was killed and three were injured.

 Another person has died in an air raid in the region and four others have been injured.

During one of these raids, a rehabilitation centre for adults and children with disabilities was hit, according to the acting Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha.

 In Odessa, three people were killed, including a 16-year-old, and 12 were injured, including a two-year-old child and a 17-year-old girl.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reported that Russia carried out “one of the largest ballistic missile attacks” against Kyiv overnight, firing over 40 missiles of various types, most of which were aimed at the capital, along with 120 attack drones.

According to the Ukrainian president, over the past week Russia has deployed against Ukraine around 1,450 attack drones, over 1,640 guided aerial bombs and 99 missiles of various types.

Zelensky then reiterated that strengthening the country’s anti-ballistic defence remains Kyiv’s “top priority”, thanking international partners for the supplies already agreed upon and urging further deliveries of interceptors.

The president also called for the pressure on Moscow to be kept up through further sanctions, arguing that any delays would allow Russia to plan new attacks and circumvent the restrictive measures.

“Ukraine’s long-range weapons struck designated targets today that are supporting and financing Russia’s war,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a post on X, explaining that units of the Ukrainian Security Service (SSU) simultaneously struck three oil depots in the Russian region of Stavropol, whilst the Ukrainian armed forces struck another fuel facility in the same region.

Zelensky also stated that “direct hits” had been recorded against three oil tankers belonging to the Russian Shadow Fleet in the Black Sea.

Zelensky also confirmed that he had spoken today with three other senior commanders of the Armed Forces, following reports that he was considering the removal of the commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrsky , and possible candidates to succeed him.

“Today I spoke with three more Ukrainian military experts: the commander of the Joint Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Mykhailo Drapatyi; the deputy chief of the General Staff, Volodymyr Horbatiuk, and the commander of the Air Assault Forces, Oleh Apostol,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.

The president did not mention Syrsky, nor did he specify whether the talks had concerned the future of the Armed Forces’ command structure. He reported that Drapatyi had presented him with a report on the situation ‘in the respective sectors of the Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk regions’.

“The top priority is air defence and the full implementation of contracts for the production of all types of drones,” Zelensky emphasised, also citing the operations of the Air Assault Forces in the Oleksandrivka sector.
