ChatGPT Health arrives, how to get on the 'waiting list' to gain access as soon as it becomes available
Developed with the input of doctors from all over the world and with the promise of the utmost attention to privacy, the new Open AI 'creature' is ready to land in the healthcare lives of citizens, who will have to follow precise instructions by importing medical records and apps to get started
Key points
"If you want to get access as soon as it is available, sign up for the waiting list". As in front of the Asl counter, one would think when reading ChatGPT's presentation page of the new ChatGPT Health, the generative AI solution specifically designed to support citizens on health issues. The artificial intelligence experience dedicated to health will still be a few weeks away and the anticipation is growing. But the project is more than concrete and is just waiting to take off, in view of the hundreds of millions of people who - as Open AI reminds us - every week ask questions about health and wellbeing, so much so that these are precisely the areas in which ChatGPT 'generalist' (it should be said) is used most often.
The numbers
"According to our anonymous analysis of conversations," the AI 'provider' further explains, "over 230million people worldwide ask health and wellness questions on ChatGPT every week. Health information is often fragmented between App portals, wearable devices, PDFs and medical notes, which is why people go with 'Chat' in search of a synthesis. According to data certified by the Milan Polytechnic's Osservatorio Sanità Digitale (Digital Health Observatory), in Italy 11% of citizens have already used generative AI tools in the health field, mainly to search for information on health problems and diseases (47%) and on drugs and therapies (30%). Among the top reasons for use are rapid access to information (50%) and ease of use (44%).
L’identikit
ChatGPT Health, developed over the course of two years and the result of collaboration with 260 physicians of different specialities in 60 countries, is avowedly designed to support the care of white coats and - we would miss it - not to replace it. Therefore, it is not intended for diagnosis and treatment, but 'helps to navigate daily questions and to understand trends over time, not just single moments of illness, in order to face important medical conversations with greater awareness'. Meanwhile, the project is being refined: 'We are starting with a small group of initial users to gather information and continue to improve ChatGPTSalute,' they warn from Open AI. Announcing a series of new features related to the new support: from medical records for lab results to Apple Health data to personalised meal ideas with Weight Watchers to blood test insights and nutritional advice. And so on. Those wishing to participate will need to import the medical records and apps used to monitor health and wellness.
The Privacy Theme
Due to the sensitive nature of health data, ChatGPT Health - is the promise - introduces additional layers of protection compared to the 'mother' chat: such as dedicated encryption systems and isolation mechanisms, to keep health conversations protected and separate. And - they assure again from Open AI - conversations on ChatGPT Health are not used to train our core models'. "As repeatedly emphasised by the Osservatorio Sanità Digitale (Digital Health Observatory)," explains Chiara Sgarbossa, director of the Osservatorio Sanità Digitale (Digital Health Observatory) of the Politecnico di Milano, "in order to provide support or guidance in the health field, it is essential to have dedicated and specific AI solutions that are able to manage the sensitivity of health data and that are based on certified data and information. Always bearing in mind that, on the other hand, for applications approaching the clinical and diagnostic sphere, the direct involvement of the doctor remains essential'.
