Helicopter crashes in Valmalenco, 29-year-old worker from Valmadrera (Lecco) dies
On board were three technicians and workers flying over an impervious area undergoing safety work after a recent landslide
One of the three passengers of the helicopter that crashed at 8.30 a.m. in the municipality of Lanzada died shortly after 2 p.m. in the hospital of Sondrio, the capital of Valtellina. The municipality of Lanzada - 1,000 metres above sea level - is located in Valmadrera, one of the valleys that branches off the Valtellina from Sondrio towards the Swiss-Italian border.
The victim of the dramatic accident was a worker of foreign origin, Tommaso Diaz Ledesma, born in Colombia, in Medellin, in 1996. He was one of three workers and a technician who, after the flyover, would be left at the base of the landslide for restoration work.
Diaz Ledesma resided in Valmadrera, in the province of Lecco: he was 29 years old.
The 57-year-old slightly injured man and the pilot Maurizio Folini, 60, from Chiuro (Sondrio) who is said to have suffered a hand injury, were rushed to Sondrio hospital. He is regarded as an experienced pilot having made numerous helicopter flights over Everest.
The helicopter was working on a landslide that occurred in the area on 11 November 2025. The aircraft was very close to the surface when it hit a rock and fell.
