Gaza, Meloni: "Mozione per riconoscimento Palestina con due condizioni"

"For us, the recognition of Palestine must be anchored to two conditions: the release of the hostages and the exclusion of Hamas from any dynamics of government inside"'. This is the third way on Gaza that the government has decided to support and that - Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced at a press point in New York in front of the Italian Representation at the United Nations - will be put down in black and white in a motion that the majority will present to Parliament.

The "third way"

.

It is therefore not the path of Donald Trump, who refused even to sign the New York Declaration of 12 September in which 142 countries, including Italy, committed to share a step-by-step path to a two-state solution. But neither did France, the United Kingdom and the other countries that chose the stage of the 80th UN General Assembly to officially recognise the State of Palestine. Meloni said she is convinced that the third way 'can also find the consensus of the opposition. It may not find the consensus of Hamas,' she pointed out, 'it may not find that of the Islamist extremists, but it should be welcomed by people of common sense'. Because 'the main political pressure should be put on Hamas, because it is Hamas that started this war and it is Hamas that prevents it from ending by refusing to hand over the hostages'.

Green Deal

.

On the harshness of Trump's river speech at the 80th UN General Assembly, also towards Europe, the premier did not want to sink in. 'I agreed with many passages,' Meloni said. On environmentalism, for example, "I agree that a certain ideological approach to the Green Deal ended up not realising that it was undermining the competitiveness of our systems."

Migration flows

.

The tycoon's words on the ineffective UN ("A reform is needed," Meloni said) and on uncontrolled immigration were also certainly shared, to the point that in the speech that the Prime Minister will be giving to the Assembly tonight at 8 p.m. (2 a.m. Italian time tomorrow) she will return to criticising "the slavers of the Third Millennium" and will propose a revision of the international conventions on the rights of migrants, starting with the 1951 convention on the status of refugees. Meloni also spoke about Gaza and migratory flows in yesterday's bilateral talks with Syria's President Ahmad Husayn al Shara, and the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Instead, the one announced with Lebanese President Aoun was cancelled and the one with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was postponed for agenda reasons. With him, the confrontation on Ukraine will also be inevitable, an issue on which Meloni has instead distanced herself from the EU's accusations of ambiguity: "I do not believe that Europe is ambiguous, but I do believe that we will have to work together as the West if we want to bring home a just and lasting peace. The message is clear: 'We need Europe, but we also need the United States. Those who delude themselves to the contrary are wrong.
