Humanoid robots: the first digital passport is launched. It provides a full identikit in the event of an accident
Padua-based company EZ Lab is bringing the Digital Product Passport to the world of robotics. With 18,000 units delivered in 2025, the humanoid robot market has seen a 508 per cent increase in shipments
The world’s first Digital Robot Passport has been launched – a tool capable of identify a ‘humanoid assistant’ quickly, with a single click – for example, in the event of an accident – instantly revealing who it belongs to, its current ‘health’ status and the emergency contacts to call. A tool that is unique in the West and goes even further than the first Asian prototypes. Its name is DRP, Robot Digital Passport, and the first company in the world to develop it is an Italian firm, EZ Lab in Padua.
A digital identity
According to IDC’s projections, over 18,000 humanoid robots were manufactured and shipped in 2025, marking a 508 per cent increase for the market, with production now underway on an industrial scale and prospects for even greater expansion by 2030. With a rapidly growing market, humanoid robots will become an increasingly common sight in workplaces and urban environments, making the monitoring and traceability of their owners increasingly essential. The Italian company EZ Lab, with its Robot Digital Passport – which collects and makes accessible information on ownership, mechanical history and support contacts for anthropomorphic devices – fills the regulatory gap that currently lacks a tool for immediate identification in the event of malfunctions and accidents.
Developed by the north-eastern MarTech company, which specialises in optimising production chains, EZ Lab’s digital robot passport was unveiled in New York and took centre stage at VivaTech Paris, Europe’s largest technology trade fair.
“We are witnessing a new technological revolution that will see robots becoming an ever-greater part of our daily lives and work – says Massimo Morbiato, CEO of EZ Lab – That is why it is important to start right away by giving them a digital identity that allows us to trace their specifications, identify who they belong to and who to contact in case of need. If a robot breaks down in a public place, behaves abnormally or loses connection with its operator, it must be possible to identify it quickly and trace the person responsible. Just as every person has an identity card, robots too will need a tool that guarantees security, transparency and trust.”
Technology and platform
At the heart of the project is DPP Studio by EZ Lab, the platform – also available as a white-label solution – that enables companies to create, manage and distribute the Digital Product Passport for products in the fashion, footwear, furniture, cosmetics, food & wine, batteries and construction materials, as required by the new European regulations on sustainability and the circular economy. Based on blockchain and artificial intelligence, the solution supports the collection, validation and sharing of product data, as well as real-time checks to verify compliance and suggest the necessary actions to meet regulatory obligations, governing the entire Digital Product Passport ecosystem. In addition to companies subject to the new regulations, the platform is also designed for agencies, consultants, system integrators and software houses wishing to develop DPP solutions for their clients.
