Bayesian, no legal action against Lynch family by The Italian Sea Group: 'Only generic mandate to lawyers'

The news that the builders of the Bayesian, the British-flagged yacht that sank at dawn on 19 August in front of the Porticello harbour, killing seven people, including the British tycoon Mike Lynch, was reportedly asking for a maxi compensation to the shipowner within a few hours.

The announcement of the legal action, reported by several local English and Italian newspapers, including La Nazione and Giornale di Sicilia, was denied in a statement directly by The Italian Sea Group, the company that took over the Perini Navi brand, the shipyard that built the Bayesian.

In fact, the company, in a note, makes it known that 'in the person of its legal representative, Giovanni Costantino, strongly denies legal action following the Bayesian tragedy'.

With regard to what has been published by some Italian and British newspapers about an alleged claim for damages of Euro 222 million, the company points out that 'although it has given a generic mandate to lawyers, no legal representative of the company has examined, signed, or authorised any writ of summons. The company strongly distances itself from what has been published and reserves the right to protect itself in all venues'.

According to press reports, the company Revtom Limited, which is owned by Angela Bacares, the widow of Mike Lynch, the boat's owner, was the one involved.
