Make rebates by the end of the year. In order to freeze the discounts currently available and thus avoid nasty surprises related to the massive cutting of home allowances scheduled to start on 1 January 2026. The snapshot of the last months of 2025, seen from the angle of the renovation deductions, starts from this fact: in a climate of maximum uncertainty about extensions and renewals of the discounts, also dictated by the line of firm caution on the public accounts front that emerged from last weekend's declarations, citizens will have to rely on prudence. While for businesses, a very critical market could emerge, characterised by a strong return of black jobs.

Mobile Bonus

.

In fact, the new year will begin under the banner of cutting many benefits that have accompanied Italians in recent years. A cut, among other things, combined with the new ceiling on deductible expenses above 75 thousand euro of income. The greatest attention is focused on the furniture bonus, the 50 per cent discount dedicated to furnishings and large household appliances with an expenditure ceiling of 5 thousand euro. After last year's confirmation (without, moreover, penalising mechanisms for second homes), a cut at the end of the year is currently scheduled for the deduction. It must be said that this bonus, in recent seasons, has always been subject to renewal every twelve months; this time, however, the difficult public accounts situation could put it at great risk.

Superbonus and bonus barriers

For this reason, the fate of the superbonus, now at 65%, seems sealed (in the negative): even if it is now in a reduced version, it is really unlikely that the government will hypothesise an extension of the discount for energy efficiency. There will be a few more chances for the 75% architectural barriers bonus: this too is due to expire at the end of the year and, in the absence of interventions, will be reabsorbed by the ordinary concessions dedicated to all renovations.

Standard home bonus

.

It is precisely the standard house bonus, dedicated to most jobs, that is the most problematic case. Currently, this stands at 50% for first homes and 36% for second homes. From January 2026 it will rise to 36% for main homes and to 30% for others. Thus, interventions such as moving partitions, redoing fixtures, installing windows or heat pumps, laying floors and extraordinary maintenance of bathrooms will all be deductible, at best, at 36 per cent.

A level of tax rebate that, on the one hand, will again make 'black' extremely convenient, on the other, risks dealing a very hard blow to the housing market. In this scenario, the government will be called upon to assess the advisability of a new intervention to revise the rebates, considering the meagreness of the available resources and their use for other priorities, starting with the reduction of Irpef for the middle class.
