In the Yorkshire Dales National Park with Cathy and Heathcliff

Certainly audacious is the cinematic tale that director Emerald Fennell has drawn from Wuthering Heights, set in the Yorkshire that provided the backdrop for the human and literary events of Emily Brontë and her prolific family. The overwhelming love between Cathy (played by Margot Robbie) and Heathcliff

(he is brought to life on screen by actor Jacob Elordi) feeds on the seemingly gruff scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park punctuated by the seemingly endless geometry of dry stone walls: around Booze Moor and Thrushcross Grange, in particular, there is a dense network of paths that allow you to penetrate the moor, reaching scenic rocky ridges, just as significant are the vestiges of the 19th-century Old Gang Smelting Mill, while the rocky terrace of Healaugh Crag invites meditation, as does the walk along Seal Houses Moor, awaiting the impetuous blossoming of the heather. You can spend the night at the Punch Bowl Inn protected by its architecture of ancient wooden beams, while enjoying meat stew at the Black Bull Hotel in Reeth. Alternatively, if you want to imitate the cast of the film, you can stay at the Simonstone Hall Hotel in Hawes, sleeping in its four-poster beds and gazing out the windows at the Upper Wensleydale valley, while peacocks scamper around the garden, generous enough to show off their 'wheels' of colourful feathers. The Stone House Hotel also sports its own Edwardian-style elegance, along with a splendid oak library.
