Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that “the serious incident on the Fly Dubai flight was an attempt at jihadist terrorism, thwarted only thanks to the courage of a number of Israeli passengers who stormed the cockpit, overpowered the terrorist and, with their own hands, restored control of the aircraft to another member of the crew who was present at the scene”.

Katz added, according to the Israeli newspaper Ynet, “that according to the initial information in our possession, the terrorist had but one intention: to crash the aeroplane with all the passengers on board. “When the Prime Minister and I issue security warnings and alerts based on intelligence, it would be wise for everyone – both our external enemies and misinformed former internal officials – to listen and take them seriously.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Saudi Arabia has arrested the pilot of the FlyDubai flight who stabbed the other pilot in an attempt to crash the plane, which was carrying a number of Israeli citizens. The Saudis are questioning the suspect, he added.

A passenger on board the flight bound for Israel, which made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia today, told AFP that they have now left Tabuk for Tel Aviv on board a new aircraft. The passenger told AFP via text message that boarding for the new flight had already been completed and that it had taken off.

The Iranians are demanding things the US cannot accept, and the US believes it has the upper hand, so there is no room for compromise,” the source said.
