Israel divided on UN resolution for Gaza. 13 killed in IDF attack on refugee camp in Lebanon
Palestinian fundamentalists defended the attack in the West Bank region
Israeli raid in southern Lebanon. According to the country's Health Ministry, at least 13 people died in the attack on the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Helweh, on the outskirts of Sidon, while Israel claimed to have hit a Hamas compound. The Ministry of Health added that "ambulances are still transporting other wounded to nearby hospitals". Lebanon's state-run National News Agency said the attack targeted a car near the Khalid bin al-Walid mosque and that 'it was later reported that the raid had also hit' the mosque itself and a centre of the same name. The Israeli army stated in a note that it had "struck terrorists operating at a Hamas training compound in the Ain al-Helweh area of southern Lebanon", adding that it was "operating against the Hamas base in Lebanon".
Meanwhile,Hamas defended the attack that took place in the West Bank region of Gush Etzion that resulted in the death of one person and the wounding of three others, calling it "a natural response to the occupation attempts and increasing aggression by soldiers and settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem area". The group, quoted by Haaretz, also warned that "efforts to impose new facts on the ground in the Gaza Strip and the ongoing plans for Judaization and annexation in the West Bank will not go unanswered".
"Palestinian state reignites terrorism"
"A government that, after the most horrific massacre in the country's history, awards the prize of a Palestinian state to the enemy assumes responsibility for reigniting terrorism against Jews". Thus former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, quoted by local media, attacks Benyamin Netanyahu for his support for the Onu resolution on Gaza, blaming him for today's terrorist attack at the Gush Etzion intersection in the West Bank. "We will resolve this issue soon," promised Bennett, considered Netanyahu's most credible challenger in next year's elections.
UN Resolution on Gaza, "Milestone"
The UN Security Council's adoption of the resolution supporting the American plan for Gaza is a 'milestone'. This was stated by the Israeli president, Isaac Herzog, in a speech in Jerusalem, according to his office. "I want to congratulate President Donald Trump on this incredible achievement," Herzog continued, who then urged European countries to make clear to the Palestinian leadership the need to implement reforms and to stop funding "terrorists," referring to the payments made by the PNA to Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. Herzog also spoke in favour of the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and a "dignified life" for the Palestinian population.
