Istat: food prices up 25% in five years
According to the National Institute of Statistics, the energy shock has had a deflagrating impact on food & beverage
The inflation impacts on basic necessities, such as food. In five years, food prices in Italy have soared by almost 25 per cent, well above the general inflation rate, driven above all between 2022 and 2023 by the shock to energy prices. This was announced by Istat in its November note on economic trends. "From October 2021 to October 2025, food goods recorded price increases of 24.9 per cent, an increase of almost 8 percentage points higher than that shown in the same period by the general harmonised consumer price index (+17.3 per cent)," the statistics institute writes.
