Jeep Compass plug-in hybrid: everything you need to know
Almost 100 kilometres on electric power, low fuel consumption even when the battery is low, and plenty of space on board
Key points
The third-generation Jeep Compass is now available as a plug-in hybrid, boasting a technical package that makes it a viable alternative to the diesel engines that have been dropped from the range. Built on Stellantis’s STLA Medium platform – used by a long list of models including the Peugeot 3008 – it is manufactured at the Melfi plant in Italia.
Jeep Compass PHEV dimensions
Featuring a style that is completely different from its predecessors and with strong references to the Jeep world, the new Compass is a full 15 centimetres longer, increasing from 4.40 metres to 4.45 metres. It is also wider, now at 1.93 metres; the height is 1.67 metres and the wheelbase measures 2.78 metres. The kerb weight is almost two tonnes, with a declared figure of 1,994 kg. In terms of off-road capabilities, the two-wheel-drive Compass boasts a ground clearance of up to 200 mm, an approach angle of 20°, a breakover angle of 15°, a departure angle of 26° and a wading depth of up to 470 mm.
New Jeep Compass plug-in hybrid
Under the bonnet of the Jeep Compass plug-in hybrid lies a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder PHEV petrol engine producing a total of 225 cavalli and 350 Nm of torque, with front-wheel drive, paired with an 18 kWh battery.
The all-electric range, in the combined cycle, is 94 kilometres according to WLTP certification, with the car always starting in electric mode. In terms of performance, it has a top speed of 216 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds. Fuel consumption is rated at 2.7 l/100 km on a full battery, with CO₂ emissions of 60 g/km. As for recharging, only AC charging is available, up to 7.4 kWh, with a charging time of almost 3 hours to fully charge the battery at 7 kWh.
Jeep Compass PHEV interior
The interior of the Jeep Compass plug-in hybrid is characterised by high-quality craftsmanship and a comprehensive range of features, featuring a 10-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the driver and a large, 16-inch horizontal central screen from which to control the connected infotainment system, compatible with CarPlay and Android Auto. The digital controls and buttons, which provide tactile feedback, are well-designed. The centre console features the Selec-Terrain system, fitted as standard on all versions, which allows you to set different driving modes to ensure the best grip on any surface. Thanks to the STL platform and its increased dimensions, the Jeep Compass offers more interior space, starting with the rear seats (which feature a 40/20/40 split as standard on all versions) and a load capacity increased by 45 litres to a total of 550 litres.
