In her first public event since the withdrawal of Joe Biden from the presidential race Kamala Harris appeared more radiant than usual. But in her speech on the south lawn of the White House to celebrate the championship teams of the National Collegiate Athletic Association she made no reference to her new role as Dem frontrunner. After all, the occasion did not lend itself to it; it would have been 'unpresidential'.
"Joe Biden's work over the past three years has been unprecedented," said Kamala Harris, who added: "Joe Biden's legacy and achievements are unparalleled in modern history."
Harris praised the president's 'honesty and integrity' and said she was grateful for his work. Harris also emphasised "his commitment to his family, his big heart and his love, his deep love for our country, and I witness firsthand that, every day, our President Joe Biden fights for Americans and we are deeply, deeply grateful for his service to our nation," Harris said, with a twinge of emotion.
Kamala Harris will be this afternoon (locle time) in Wilmington, Delaware, headquarters of what until yesterday was the 'Biden-Harris Campaign' and now sees her name at the top of the ticket, pending the choice of a vice presidential candidate.
"It's the first full day of our campaign, so I'm going to Wilmington later today to greet our staff at headquarters. One day down. 105 to go. Together we will win," the vice president wrote on X.
