Gucci reported revenues of 1.3 billion, down 14% on a comparable basis, compared to a market-expected organic decline of 15%.
Key points
Kering's revenues fell in the third quarter of the year, but less than in the previous quarter. The group is settling on a sequential improvement to turn the tide from last year and managed to beat analysts' estimates, which were more pessimistic, in the period.
In the three months ended 30 September, the French luxury giant reported sales of EUR 3.4 billion, down 10% on a reported basis (negative exchange rate effect of -5%) and 5% on a comparable basis compared to the same period in 2024. The market consensum, as reported by Bernstein, was -8.8% on an organic basis.
"The 5% decline on a comparable basis represents a marked sequential improvement from the -15% decline in the second quarter, reflecting a partial recovery in activity. About half of this recovery is attributable to the positive performance of the group's maisons, which were confronted with a favourable comparative base," the note reads.
The new CEO, Luca de Meo, who has been in office since last September, announced on Sunday the agreement with L'Oreal for the beauty business, which will bring €4 billion into the group's coffers by the first half of 2026, and after the quarterly report he looks further ahead: "The third quarter performance, while representing a clear sequential improvement, remains well below that of the market. This reinforces my determination to act on all operational levers to restore our maisons and the group to the leading role they deserve. We are working with determination on our relaunch plan, as the recent decisions taken demonstrate".
In the first nine months of the year, Kering generated revenues of EUR 11.0 billion, down 14% on a reported basis and 12% on a comparable basis.
