Largo Maradona 'abusive', t-shirts and gadgets seized: 5,000 euro fines
Blitz by municipal police and public safety officers. 9.4 square metres of unauthorised land occupation found. Seals on five unauthorised carts
The Naples municipal police have confiscated all the material in the area of the Maradona mural, in the Quartieri Spagnoli, visited by thousands of visitors every year. T-shirts and gadgets have been confiscated, and the chapel where the various memorabilia and statues dedicated to the former Napoli champion have been covered over. Only the large mural of Maradona and another 6-metre high statue, recently donated by an Argentinean artist, remain uncovered. Many tourists on the spot are wondering what is going on. Access to the area has been forbidden.
The blitz in Largo Maradona by the Avvocata and Chiaia operational units of the Neapolitan police, in cooperation with the staff of the Montecalvario police station, led to the seizure of five carts for the sale of drinks, abandoned and chained on public land, lacking any authorisation. In addition, two commercial establishments, one food and one non-food, were seized for lacking the necessary authorisation for fixed premises.
For these violations, administrative fines of EUR 5,000 each were imposed, in addition to the detection of further irregularities such as the illegal occupation of public land for a total area of approximately 9.4 square metres and the lack of a driveway. The competent technical offices will now proceed to check the urban destination of an area of approximately 200 square metres, which will be further investigated.
In the course of the operation, a man was also reported for theft of electricity, ascertained following an illegal connection to the network by a business located opposite Largo Maradona.
